Jerry Wayne Carpenter

August 19, 1940 — August 6, 2018

Jerry Wayne Carpenter. 77, of Pittsview, AL passed away Monday evening, August 6, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA while surrounded by his loving family.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held 11:00 am EST on Friday morning, August 10, 2018 at Vance Memorial Chapel (Vance Brooks Funeral Home) in Phenix City with Pastor Richie Ashburn and Rev. Norman Garrison officiating.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home.   Serving as pallbearers are Hunter Wilson, Jake Wilson, Taylor Simmons, Tyrone Jordan, Greg Edwards, and Michael Charles, honorary pallbearers will be the Russell County Chapter of Gideon’s International.

Mr. Carpenter was born August 19, 1940 in Clio, AL to the late A. Wallace Carpenter, Sr. and Clara Campbell Carpenter.  He was a cattle farmer and the owner and operator of Villula Plantation.  He also was retired from Fieldcrest Mills with forty six years of dedicated service.  For many years he was owner of J&J Services, a landscaping company in Phenix City. Mr. Carpenter was a graduate of Troy University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree.  He was a member of the Russell County School Board, served as one of the Directors for the Russell County Cattlemen’s Association, served as Vice-President of Aqua-Vista Condominium Association, was an associate member of the Russell County Retired Educators Association, and a member of the Russell County Chapter of Gideon’s International.  He was a member of the National Rifleman's Association and the Russell County Republicans Club. He enjoyed farming, the outdoors, hunting, and fishing and was passionate about helping others.  He was a Vietnam Veteran and proudly served our country in the United States Army and was the recipient of Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal.  He was a Pentecostal by faith, attended Silver Run Baptist Church, and was a member of Seale Baptist Church.  Other than his Parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Mary Frances Dansby, Geraldine Dansby, Lavohn Carpenter, Shirley Carpenter, and Wallace Carpenter, Jr.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Ruthie Hardy Carpenter of Pittsview, AL, one daughter, Michelle Carpenter Obert and husband Randy of Phenix City, AL, one brother, Jack Carpenter of Phenix City, AL, and three precious grandchildren, Cara Obert, Carli Obert, and Cailin Obert, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and many caring friends.
