Jewel Bankston East, 97, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 4, 2018 in the comfort of her home in Phenix City.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held 11:00 am EST Tuesday morning, October 9, 2018 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with Pastor Israel Jane officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 am EST at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City. Everyone is invited to leave in procession from Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City to Fort Mitchell National Cemetery by 10:30 am EST on Tuesday.
Mrs. East was born August 13, 1921 in Phenix City, AL to the late Fitch Bankston and Josie Greer Bankston. For many years she had worked in retail sales for Neil’s Sport Shop. She was passionate about engaging and supporting the local school PTA program. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and cooking, but her greatest joy was spending time with all her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John Henry East.
She is survived by her three sons, Mike East and wife Carolyn of Alpharetta, GA, Stanley East of Phenix City, AL, and Carey East and wife Donna Jean of Phenix City, AL, one sister, Frances Cook of Phenix City, AL, three grandchildren, Caleb East, Erin Jane and husband Pastor Israel Jane, and Matthew East, and six great grandchildren, Zack East, Ivey East, Kylie East, Ava Jane, Memphis Jane, and Stella Jane, numerous extended loving family members and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the request contributions to Columbus Hospice in memory of Mrs. Jewel East.
