Jimmy Darrell Hunter, Sr.

December 23, 1953 – September 9, 2021

Jimmy Darrell Hunter, Sr. 67, of Smiths Station, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown in Columbus, Georgia.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 pm, Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery in Smiths, Alabama with Reverend Jesse Reader officiating.

Jim was born on December 23, 1953, in Jackson, Mississippi, the son of Chalmers “Sam” Hunter and Berthy McCoy Hunter. He worked in the Textile Industry until a tragic car accident left him disabled.  Jim worked hard to provide for his family. Jim led a fairly eventful early life but he found pleasure in simple things like playing cards, dominos and reading Louis L’amour novels.  He taught his children to put family first and to never hesitate to help others when needed.  Although on paper Jim was 67, anytime he was asked he swore he was 19.  He will always be remembered as a good supporter of his family and friends and for helping anyone in need.

He is preceded in death by his  father, Chalmers “Sam” Hunter, and his adored wife, Linda Elaine Hunter, aka “Woman”  as Jim lovingly referred to her.

He is survived by his mother, Berthy Hunter; two sons, Jimmy Darrell (Heather) Hunter Jr. and Kevin (Christy) McGuire; four sisters, Julie (Butch) Adkins, Sammie (Tom) Platko, Sandra Kim, and Marilyn Nesbitt; seven grandchildren, Megan, Noah (Alaina), Holly, and Matt McGuire, Haley and Conner Thomason, and Lillian Hunter; great grandchild, Fallon McGuire; eight nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews; as well as several extended family and caring friends.
