Joan Lowery, age 85, resident of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center, Columbus, Georgia. Rosary will be said at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N, Phenix City, Alabama on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, 6 p.m. with Father David Hamm officiating. Due to Cov-19 restrictions, Funeral Mass will be celebrated for the family only on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at St. Patrick Church. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Lowery, daughter of the late James Alford Harden and Fay Green Harden, was born on January 10, 1935 in Phenix City. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and active in Soladarity. For many years, she served many in the Columbus/Phenix City as a hairdresser, at Gayfer’s and Dillard’s, until she retired. Mrs. Lowery spent many hours volunteering her time visiting nursing home residents providing gift bags to many. She was a woman who loved her husband and her church. Mrs. Lowery enjoyed baking cakes, particularly at Christmas. She also enjoyed watching classic English films. The family remembers her as a wonderful light who touched many with her love and kindness.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Lowery was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Howell. She is survived by her loving husband, Ron Lowery; daughter, Brenda Turner and her husband Arthur of Cordele, Georgia; two sons, Danny Howell and his wife Billie Jean of Andersonville, Georgia and Mike Page and his wife Cindy of Cataula, Georgia; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
