Joan L. Nagem, born on November 7, 1933, in Hawkinsville, Georgia, gracefully departed this world on March 4, 2025, at Arbor Springs Health & Rehab Center, surrounded by her beloved family. A visitation will be held at10:00 am EST on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL 36867 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am EST and concluding with a committal service at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Joan Nagem was a kind and compassionate woman who had many skills. She worked in real estate and was a part of a real estate organization until proudly serving Russell County as the License Commissioner until she retired. Joan was a devout Catholic, a part of the Ladies Auxiliary group, and dedicated much time in being a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for many years. She also took on the role of helping and supporting the Girl Scouts. Joan was an avid Auburn Tigers fan and loved to go on cruises and travel, especially to the beach. Joan’s favorite day of the year was St. Patrick’s Day, which was fitting as she was a generally lucky person, and she had a particular fondness for Ireland. Joan was great at playing the piano, embroidery, and crocheting, which she did often in her free time. Joan loved to play with her dog and could never pass up a good Hallmark Movie. She was a lovely woman and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Joan Nagem is preceded in death by beloved husband, Henry J. Nagem Sr.; her son, Henry Joseph "Hank" Nagem Jr.; her parents, Evelyn Laura Gullatte and Robert Donald Gullatt; her siblings, Robert Donald Gullatt Jr. and Patricia Gulatte-Britt; and her great-granddaughter, Laura Joan Croke.
She is survived by her devoted daughters, Lynn Harper (Jack), Cynthia McWilliams (David), and Allison Whitaker (Kent); siblings, Wyonna Johnson (Charles) and Rebecca Tew (Rick), and her brother, Dewayne Gullatt (Dianne); 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
