JoAnn Smith, 72, of Phenix City, AL, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at her home.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm EST, on Monday, May 16, 2016, at Summerville Baptist Church, with Reverend Rob Goodman officiating. A private interment will be held at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm EST, at Vance Memorial Chapel. Serving as Pallbearers are, David VanHorn, Lenny Crookham, Shane Ragan, Chris Senn, Bobby Head and Dave Edwards.

 

JoAnn was born on June 18, 1943, in Columbus, GA, the daughter of Amos Junior Kornegay and Edith Meadows Goins. She was a retired administrative assistant for the Columbus Ledger Enquirer having worked there from 1972 until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of Summerville Baptist Church in Phenix City.

 

JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years Ray Smith, both parents Amos and Edith, mother in law Berma Avant, her second mother Elizabeth Kornegay, brothers Mike and Patrick Kornegay.

 

JoAnn is survived by her 2 sons, David and Talitha Smith of Dadeville, Alabama, Ron and Kathy Smith of Phenix City, Alabama; 4 sisters, Elise Hatcher of Augusta Georgia, Barbara Bauchpies of Providence, Rhode Island, Susan Collette of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Joyce Lynn Foley of Riverdale, California. She adored 5 grandchildren, Clayton, Sarah Kate, Olivia, Will and Charlotte Smith. Mrs. Smith had a large extended family, many native to Columbus, Georgia, numerous close friends and friendships developed over her lifetime spent in Phenix City, Alabama.
