John Earl Horne, 82, of Phenix City, AL passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA. Funeral services with Navy Military Honors will be held 11:00 am EST Friday morning, January 9, 2015 at Vance Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert Goodman and Rev. John Hatcher officiating. A private interment will be held on Monday at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday. Mr. Horne was born March 19, 1932 in Columbus, GA to the late Walter Clarence Horne, Sr. and Gertie Hatcher Horne. He was retired as a truck driver with Herman Powell Trucking and Hughes Supply. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and a member of Summerville Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching TV, the Atlanta Braves, and Alabama Crimson Tide Football and he loved good cooking. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ouida Park Horne, sister, Mary Elizabeth Powell, and a brother, Clarence Horne, Jr. He is survived by a daughter, Charlane Horne of Phenix City, AL, son, John Horne and wife Jan of Columbus, GA, sister, Gertie Ann Horne of Phenix City, AL, brother, Harry Herschel Horne and wife Ladie of Columbus, GA, (2) grandchildren, Amanda Carol Brophy (Ryan), and Summer Michaela Horne, (2) great grandchildren, Jack and Madelyn Brophy, numerous other loving family members and many caring friends.
