John Felton Adkinson, 85, of Smiths Station, AL died peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM (EST) on Tuesday, October 03, 2023, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with his grandson, Zachary Jones officiating. A private interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Adkinson was born February 03, 1938 in Columbus, GA son of the late William Grady Adkinson and Fannie Mae Galloway Adkinson. He had retired from the U. S. Postal Service working up from a clerk, routeman to Supervisor after 31 years of service. Mr. Felton also served our Country in the U. S. Navy Reserves. He continued to serve his community as the past Chairman and board member of the Smiths Station Fire Department for over 30 years. Mr. Felton was an active member of Fellowship Assembly of God for over 63 years serving on their Board during that time. A busy man, for many years he was also a Football Referee for high school and a Little League Baseball Umpire. His presence in our lives will be missed and his influence in the community will be hard to fill; however, he has left a legacy of love of God, family and community for us to continue to build upon.
Mr. Adkinson was preceded in death by his parents, William and Fannie Mae Adkinson and a sister, Alice Faye Dasinger.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Helen Jenella Best Adkinson; three daughters, Teresa Floyd (Bill), Tina Belfance (John) and Carla Godwin (Sidney); three grandchildren, Zach, Hannah and Clay; five bonus grandchildren, Danny, Brandy, Jake, Chris and Ashlee; numerous other family members and friends.
