John Grady Grimes, Jr., 77 of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, September 5, 2024, in the comfort of his home while surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am EDT Tuesday morning, September 10, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Grant Parker officiating. A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home in Phenix City.
John was born October 21, 1946, in Greenville, AL, son of the late John Grady Grimes, Sr. and Eunice Vermal McCrory Grimes. He was the owner/operator of Affordable Professional Termite and Pest Control serving the Phenix City and surrounding communities. He was a man of great character that took pride, love, and value for the love of his family. He was always working to try to make life easier for everyone. He was friendly, loved fellowship, and loved trying to help anyone he could. He enjoyed traveling, cooking and grilling, and was passionate about the Alabama Crimson Tide. He had served in the United States Army Reserves. He was a man of faith, a Christian, and was a member of Epworth Methodist Church in Phenix City.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Thaddeus Grimes; an infant brother Ronald Grady Grimes; and a son, John Jeffery Gregory.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Judy Chadwick Grimes; his children, Mark Grimes (Elizabeth), Christopher Bryant Grimes (Melody), Leslie Strickland, Darrell Brown (Regina), Missy Dockins (Allen), Ron Thaxton (Jennifer), and Diana Gail Gregory; two brothers, David Grimes (Terry), and Ramsey Paul Grimes (Debbie); nine grandchildren, Haley Kirkman, Jordan Finley (Dakota), Isaac Grimes (Leigh), Jesse Grimes, Trucker Grimes (Brianna), Ashton Grimes, Launa Grimes, Kiyoshi Berryhill, and Kaya Berryhill; four great grandchildren, William Grimes, Ava Finley, Addison Finley, and Rowan Finley; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and many caring friends.
