On July 4, 2024, the world lost a beloved soul as John Franklin King of Columbus, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home. John lived a life full of love and kindness. Services to honor John will be held on Tuesday July 9, 2024 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Columbus. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The funeral will take place at 3:00 PM with interment immediately after at Evergreen Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Georgia Hospice Care in honor of John.
John King was born on February 16, 1931, in Opp, Alabama, to parents Perry King and Callie Hudson King. He left school as a teenager to help his parents take care of the family farm. Some years later, John attended Columbus Tech and earned a degree in Welding. In his professional journey, John dedicated many years as a welder at Swift Textiles before embracing a well-deserved retirement.
John's truest passion was gardening. A meticulous gardener, he nurtured his vegetable garden with utmost care and generously shared its bounty with loved ones and the community. Furthermore, he found joy in feeding the wildlife that frequented his yard. Apart from his professional and gardening pursuits, John had a deep appreciation for gospel music and old-time country tunes which brought him joy throughout his life. Described as a gentle giant and known for his kind and loving nature, John leaves behind cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him best.
John is survived by his cherished wife Mildred Annette King; loving son David King and daughter-in-law Stacia; grandson Christopher Scott King and his wife Tammy; granddaughter Tabbetha Yvonne King; great-grandson Josh Sawyer; brother Robert Winston King; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his beloved son Donnie Franklin King; great-grandson Jake Sawyer; sisters Faye Moody and Georgia Moore; brother Willie Jay King.
The memory of John Franklin King will forever remain etched in our hearts as we remember his warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for all.
