John Andrew Manning, Sr., 89, of Columbus, GA passed away early Sunday morning, July 21, 2024, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Columbus, GA
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 3:00 pm EDT on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Derrick Millirons officiating. The family will receive friends at the memorial service. A private burial will take place at Parkhill Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his love of his life and wife of 65 years, Joyce Elizabeth Manning.
John was born September 8, 1934, in Columbus, GA, son of the late Harry E. Manning, Sr. and Ada Mae Taylor Maughon. He had worked in several different professions during his lifetime, including Display at Kirven’s Department Store, insurance, boat technician, residential property supervisor, and as an assistant funeral director and embalmer. He was a former member of the Columbus Jaycees and was a long-time member of the Columbus Sail and Power Squadron. He was a gentleman of many talents, always offering to help those in need. He was a man of great character who loved all his family deeply. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, and boating, Georgia Bulldog football and taking many boating trips down the Chattahoochee from Columbus to Apalachicola and Panama City. Mr. Manning enjoyed simple things, fellowship, and sitting by the river and eating a good BBQ plate with hot sauce. He was a Christian and a man of faith.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Elizabeth Outlaw Manning, and a brother, Harry E. “Butch” Manning, Jr.
He is survived by his children, John Andrew Manning, Jr. of Phenix City, AL, and Michele Danese Maltbey, of Columbus, GA; sisters-in-law, Diane Outlaw and Diane Haywood; two granddaughters, Sirena Maltbey, and Rune Ward and husband John; great-grandchildren, Damian Gibson, Estella Ward, and one precious one on the way (Autumn), several nieces, nephews, and cousins; long-time friends, Charles and Sherry Shaw, Teresa Pena, and Liz and Don Schuck; other extended loving family members and many caring friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff of Piedmont Hospital, Midtown, and Magnolia Manor Health Care for their care and support shown to Mr. Manning and his family.
