John Thomas “JT” Morgan, 88, of Columbus, GA passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019 at his residence. A memorial service will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Saturday, May 18, 2019 beginning at 2:00 PM with Pastor Tony Crosby and Rev. Andy Rutherford officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service. Following the service family and friends will meet at 746 Ginn Road, Ellerslie, GA 31807 for Celebration of Life Tribute (meal, music and spreading of ashes).
JT was born on November 9, 1930 in Cusseta, GA to the late Raphael and Evie Bernice Morgan. For several years, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. During this time, he was deployed in the Korean Conflict. After his time in the Navy, JT became quite an entrepreneur. He started many businesses including a fast car wash, a gambling boat named Savannah Lady, and JR’s BBQ. Singing karaoke and playing golf were two of his favorite past times. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Columbus, GA and VFW Post 10558 in Cataula, GA. This extraordinary man lived his life to the fullest and left a legacy that his family and friends will always hold close to their hearts.
Other than his parents, JT is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Morgan; son, Johnny Morgan; brothers, Richard Morgan and Raphael Morgan, Jr; sister, Catherine Willis.
Survivors include his children, Gwen Barlow (Dale) of Columbus, GA, Stan Morgan (Tracie) of Columbus, GA, Debra Barron (Tom) of Phenix City, AL; his previous wife, Karon Morgan; sisters, Juanita Quinn of Columbus, GA, Sara Ginn of Ellerslie, GA, Elizabeth Garrett (Ansley) of Sasser, GA, Jo Ann Harp of Albany, GA; grandchildren, William Cooper (Alisa), Shawn Cooper (Brea), Amber Kinsman (Chase), Tyler Morgan, Ashley Renfroe, Christy McWilliams (Phillips); great-grandchildren, Jaxson Cooper, Camdon Kinsman, Walker Kinsman, Phillips McWilliams, Jr, Reagan McWilliams; stepdaughter, Stefani Harris of Columbus, GA; step-grandchildren, Briana Robinson of Athens, GA, Presley Pettit, Pearson Pettit, and Ethan Pettit, all of Ellerslie, GA.
