John Turner Lunsford

John Turner Lunsford, 92, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Dr. David Kees officiating. A private interment with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Lunsford was born April 17, 1925 in Milton, FL to the late John Anderson Lunsford and Mamie Frazier Lunsford.  He was retired from the Irons Worker Union and had served as a representative and a job superintendent.  He served our country with honor and was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII.  He enjoyed hunting, and tinkering with different projects around his yard, but his greatest love was his family, and spending quality time with all his grandchildren.  He was a member of Smiths Station Baptist Church.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Mae Hart, and two brothers, Bill A. Lunsford, and Jack R. Lunsford.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 43 ½ years, Mary “Yvonne” Hodge Lunsford, one daughter, Terrie Lee Lunsford Detore and husband Chuck, two sons, William Lynn Cosby and wife Lou, and Timothy Stephen “Steve” Cosby; (9) grandchildren, Michael Cosby (Alexis), Jonathan Cosby, Joshua Cosby (Shirley), Christopher Cosby, Lauren Cosby, Anna Cosby, Dee Wise, Tom Huntsman, and John Huntsman (Kristi), (8) great grandchildren, (3) great great grandchildren, and two more on the way, several nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and many caring friends.  In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Smiths Station Baptist Church or the Columbus Hospice.
