Johnie Boyd Hallford

January 29, 1944 — June 17, 2024

Johnie Boyd Hallford, 80, of Phenix City, AL died peacefully at his home on Monday, June 17, 2024, with his family by his side.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM EDT on Friday, June 21, 2024, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Mike Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM EDT until 8:00 PM EDT on Thursday evening at Vance Brooks Funeral Home.

Boyd was born the second of four sons to Horace Clinton Hallford and Gladys Margaret Brooks Hallford on January 29, 1944. He graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus, GA in 1962. Boyd married Ann Whitman in the summer of 1978, and they began their family several years later in 1981. They enhanced the family with their next addition in 1985.

Boyd spent many of his working years supervising in Ampex’s Magnetic Tape Division in Opelika, AL. Friendships started with these colleagues lasted long after retirement through regular lunches with the R.O.M.E.O. club.

Boyd’s favorite memories were with his family. On beach trips he was known to be an excellent supplier of water balloons. His family will always be grateful for the times that he sacrificed his feet while carrying the green cooler across the hot beach sand. The annual “Brothers Trip” provided many cherished memories. But perhaps some of his favorite times were when he attended the football games, soccer games, band events, ballets, and tee-ball games of his sons and grandchildren.

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Gladys Hallford, and a brother, Jimmy “Giggy” Hallford.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Ann Whitman Hallford, Phenix City, AL; two sons, Jonathan Hallford (Keri), Opelika, AL and Gavin Hallford (Courtney), Albertville, AL; two brothers, Perry Hallford (Keryl), Billings, MT and Brooks Hallford (Carolyn), Phenix City, AL; two grandchildren, Margot (Jonathan and Keri’s daughter) and Hayes (Gavin and Courtney’s son); sister-in-law, Brenda Hallford, San Antonio, TX; brother-in-law, Wayne Whitman, Columbus, GA and special cousin, Becky Oliver, Troy, AL; lifelong friend, Robert Brooks, Smiths Station, AL; several other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Flowers will be accepted or the family requests donations be made in his memory to Columbus Hospice, www.columbushospice.com or the Piedmont Columbus Regional Foundation, www.piedmont.org.
