Johnnie Kay Yarbrough, 61, of Auburn, AL passed away early Tuesday morning, April 23, 2019 at the East Alabama Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EST on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Mike Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home.
Ms. Yarbrough was born August 20, 1957 in Gasden, AL to the late Charles Gargus and Sarah June Teague Gargus. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister who dearly loved her family. She enjoyed sitting on her porch observing and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. She loved working crossword puzzles, and in her past was an outstanding track athlete. She was a Christian by faith and loved spending time reading her Bible. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Doyce Holloway Gargus and a sister, Connie Jo Jones.
She is survived by her children, Kristopher Yarbrough and wife Lauran Yarbrough, Courtney Yarbrough and husband Silverio Ortega, and Spencer Yarbrough all of the Opelika-Auburn area; father of their children and friend, Daryl Yarbrough of Tuskegee, AL (4) siblings, Bobbie Oravet of Rome, GA, Robbie Ellis of Phenix City, AL, Floyd Gargus of Phenix City, AL, and Tommy Gargus of Phenix City, AL, (3) grandchildren, Thalia Kane Ortega, Alex Ortega, and Ultan Yarbrough along with host of nieces and nephews.
