Joseph "Wayne" George

Joseph “Wayne” George, 68, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice at Franciscan Woods in Columbus, GA.

A Celebration of life memorial service will be held 3:00 pm EDT / 2:00 pm CDT on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Mike Stewart officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Wayne was born May 28, 1948 in Montgomery, AL to the late Joseph Edward George and Mary Evelyn Vance George.  He was retired as an Independent Insurance Appraiser.  He had a passion for music and enjoyed playing the guitar and was known all over as a talented musician.  He enjoyed traveling and playing with the George Brothers Band.  He loved wood crafting, enjoyed being a volunteer for children, and had a tender heart for animals.  He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and was a Catholic by faith.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Roger Virgil George, Mark Alan George, and James Conley George.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, and friend for over 50 years, Carol Kinsella George of Phenix City, AL; two sons, Brian D. Waters and wife Carin of Columbus, GA, and Shon A. Waters and wife Melissa of Auburn, AL, sister, Margaret “Peggy” Lee Turner and husband Gene of Millbrook, AL, three brothers, Edward M. George and wife Sherry of Prattville, AL, Nathan “Bruce” George and wife Debbie of Montgomery, AL, Dwight “Danny” Daniel George and wife Sue of Montgomery, AL; one grandson, Tillman A. Waters, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
