Mrs. Josie Mena Chi died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 21st, 2015, in Northport, Alabama, at the age of 95. Mrs. Chi was born to the late Louis and Dorothy Donald Mena in Choctaw County, Alabama, on May 23rd, 1919. She studied to be a dental assistant and enjoyed caring for her patients. She was a loving wife, mother, and loyal friend who was known for her smile. Mrs. Chi was a long time member of the First Christian Church family of Phenix City and took pleasure in gardening, sewing, cooking, and volunteering for the American Heart Association. Her husband, Dr. David W. Chi, preceded her in death as well as her parents and eight sisters and brothers: Viola Brand, Vivian Brand, Ina Faye Dolan, Nina Gay Hayes, Theola Williams, and Edward, Joe (her twin), and Louis Mena. Mrs. Chi is survived by a daughter, Claire Chi Kindred (Bryan), two grandchildren, David O'Neal Kindred (Elisabeth), Anne Elise Kindred Summers (Ethan), many nieces and nephews, and the loving care givers who became family. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am EST Friday, January 23, 2015 at Vance Memorial in Phenix City, Alabama. Burial will follow in Park Hill Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 am EST prior to the funeral service on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Alabama Hospice Care of Tuscaloosa, at 3064 Palisades Court, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 35405.
