Judy Ann Hughes, 65, of Phenix City, AL passed away Tuesday evening, September 5, 2023, at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA while surrounded by her loving family.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am EDT on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Pastor Jimmy Culpepper officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date in a very special place by her loving family.
Judy was born September 14, 1957, in Anniston, AL and was the daughter of the late Charles Geier and Lore Beckenbach Geier. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family. She was a Key Spouse and a recipient of the Gold Star. As a military spouse, and a woman of great character, she was proud to be always present, able, and willing to support her husband and family as they traveled around the world in their many adventures and opportunities. She loved nature, animals of all sorts, and her numerous hummingbirds. She enjoyed visiting the beach, music, and arts and crafts. She was a Christian by faith.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 47 years, Joel Hughes; two sons, Will “Boo” Hughes and wife Tabitha of Jacksonville, AR, and Chad Hughes and wife Wendy of Tucson, AZ; sister, Kathy Montana-Elliott and husband Jim of Oklahoma City, OK; brother, Fritz “Jens” Beckenbach of Crystal River, FL; step-mother, Diana Geier; seven grandchildren, Brittany Jackson and husband Tyler, Brian Hughes, Brendon Hughes, Shane Short, Brody Short, Kaeden Hughes, and Alexia Hughes; one very special great grandchild, Ella Ann Jackson; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the charity of your choosing in Judy’s honor/memory.
