Julia “Eleanor” Ward Gill, 88, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, July 26, 2024, at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am EDT Wednesday morning, July 31, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Phillip Camp and Rev. Mike Gill officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home in Phenix City.
Mrs. Gill was born March 16, 1936, in Phenix City, AL, daughter of the late Julian Evans Ward, Sr. and Mary Bethel Teel Ward. She had worked in a bookkeeping administration most of her life. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, gardening, nature, tending to her flowers and admiring her hummingbirds. She was a lady of great character and faith who loved all her family deeply. She was a long-time member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Phenix City. She loved teaching Sunday School and was a member of the WMU’s.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 58 years, Don Melvin Gill, and three siblings, Arthur Lee Ward, Julian Evans Ward, Jr., and Tina Ward Simmons.
She is survived by two sons, Andrew Steven Gill of Phenix City, AL, and Rev. Mike Gill and wife Ruth of Rupert, ID; one sister, Clara Ponder of Phenix City, AL; three grandchildren: Autumn (Callie) Clark; Crystal Thompson; Matthew (Kim) Gill; four great-grandchildren, Aurora Gill, Ava Thompson, Konnor & Selah Clark; several nieces, nephews, other loving family members, church family, and many caring friends.
