Julia Violet Hodge Posey, 90, of Columbus, Georgia passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, Nov 20, 2013 at the home of her daughter, Lynne and son-in-law Gene Austin of Fortson, Georgia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Vance-Brooks Memorial Chapel on Macon Road with the Reverend J. Roy White from Living Grace United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends, Monday, November 25, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Vance-Brooks Memorial Chapel on Macon Road. Violet was born February 18, 1923, the daughter of the late Henry G. Hodge and Maggie Ensley Hodge, in Phenix City, Alabama. She was a graduate of Jordan Vocational High School and worked in the accounts department of Kirven's Department Store in the early 40's and enjoyed being a homemaker raising her three children. She enjoyed playing bridge; bowling; dancing and spending time with her family. She was a devoted member of Living Grace United Methodist Church (Sherwood United Methodist Church); Worker's Sunday School Class; and United Methodist Women. She was an active member who enjoyed her involvement with her church family, especially her friends, Nell and Nevelyn. Other than her parents she was predeceased in death by her husband of 67 years, Dewey L. Posey; son, Henry G. (Hank) Posey; and three sisters. She is survived by her daughter Lynne P. Austin (Gene) of Fortson, Georgia and son Steve M. Posey (Despina) of Irmo, South Carolina, daughter-in-law Jackie W. Posey, of Columbus, Georgia. Mitchell, Alabama; Steven Lambert of Columbus, Georgia; Ryan Posey (Brandy) of Buford, Georgia; Adelina Stanley of Houston, Texas; Melissa Posey of Columbus, Georgia and six great-grandchildren, Summer Austin of Columbus, Georgia; Jonathan Shepherd of Columbus, Georgia; Trenton Austin of Columbus, Georgia; Layla Shepherd of Fort Mitchell, Alabama; Jenna Ham of Fort Mitchell, Alabama and Aiden Posey of Buford, Georgia. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Kenneth Posey of Columbus, Georgia. A special thanks is extended to the staff of Columbus Hospice House, Moon Road especially Ann Williams and the devoted sitters from Freedom Home Care especially Linda Broadnas for the wonderful care of our mother. Additional thanks to niece, Deloris and her husband David Darrah for their devotion and love throughout the years. Flowers will be accepted, but donations to Columbus Hospice House, Moon Road and Living Grace United Methodist Church in her memory will also be appreciated.
