Mrs. Atkinson was born April 26, 1957, in Salinas, California daughter of the late Dale McCants and Eva Neff McCants. She enjoyed being with her husband and friends at the American Legion Post # 18, Opelika, AL and VFW Post # 5228, Smiths Station, AL. Mrs. Atkinson was a collector of antiques, even owing an antique store at one time. She loved to decorate her home in California and her seven Christmas trees with specialty Christmas ornaments she collected all year long. Mrs. Atkinson was also an artist who found great joy in creating special flower arrangements for her family and friends. After moving to Alabama a few years ago to be with family, she joined the Alabama “Roll Tide” fan club. She had a soft heart for all animals, especially her fur babies. She will be missed deeply, but every time we see a beautiful butterfly, we will remember her and how special she was to us.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Daniel “Dan” Atkinson, Phenix City, AL; a sister-in-law, Jannie Fripp; two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Atkinson and Marshal Atkinson (Beth); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; her fur babies; and friends too numerous to name.
