Karen Michelle Wood

Karen Michelle Wood, born on July 19, 1966, in Sanford, North Carolina, sadly departed this world on January 13, 2025, in the comfort of her home. She was a beacon of kindness and love, a nurturing presence to those fortunate enough to know her. Services to honor Karen will be announced at a later date according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Columbus. 

Karen dedicated many years to her career as a nurse, a testament to her compassionate nature. She earned a Bachelor’s of Nursing, and throughout her profession, she exemplified the true essence of caregiving, as she always put the needs of others above her own. Her patients and colleagues alike were touched by her care and compassion, which solidified her reputation as a remarkable caregiver.

Karen was known for being the sweetest thing, embodying a gentle spirit that enveloped her loved ones in warmth. She adored her sons, Zane Greyson Wood and his wife Sarah, Ethan Karl Bivins Wood, and Tristan Wood. Each of them thrived under her nurturing care, and they will forever carry her loving spirit in their hearts as they navigate the world without her. She is also survived by her beloved mother, Mary Helen Chonaker, and her brother, Michael Alan Wise and his wife Corrie. Karen's bond with her family was irreplaceable, marked by love and support through life's journeys. Among her close connections was dear longtime friend Darin Poole, who treasured the moments and memories they shared, especially the memories of Karen caring for him through the immeasurable loss of his wife.

Karen is reunited in eternity with her beloved father, Uwe Karl, whom she idolized.

 Her passing leaves a noticeable void in the lives of all who knew her, but her legacy of kindness and unconditional love will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family and friends. As we reflect on her life, we remember she touched our lives with her quiet strength and endless compassion.
