Karen Montjoy, 74, of Columbus, GA passed away Monday, April 16, 2018 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA after a long battle with illness. The funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home at 4048 Macon Road in Columbus on Saturday, April 21, 2018 beginning at 1 P.M. EST. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home from 12 P.M. until 1 P.M. EST.
Karen was born on January 1st, 1944 in San Marcos, Texas to the parents of Joseph and Catherine McGarr. Karen attended the Women’s College of Georgia in Milledgeville and graduated with her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education from Columbus College. She taught special education for thirty two years in the Muscogee County school system. She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa and served as Georgia State President of the organization from 2010 to 2012. She was a regular donor to the Ronald McDonald Foundation. Karen was known for her generous and loving soul. She enjoyed watching the birds in her yard, playing cards, and reading mystery novels. Karen was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and pets.
Karen is survived by her husband, Monty; her sister, Carol Hemker; her children, Cristi and Curt; her grandchildren, Steven, Catherine, Cristin, and Britton; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
