Kellon Gene Shepard

Kellon Gene Shepard, 90, of Phenix City, AL passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm EST Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating.  Private interment with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm EST Monday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Shepard was born August 29, 1926 in Ozark, AL, the son of Horace Otis Shepard and Lillie Holloway Shepard.  He served as a Community Relations Manager and retired from the Columbus Ledger Enquirer and also worked in photography/advertising for the Phenix Citizen and worked with Phenix Regional Hospital.  He was proud to have had the opportunity to be a part of the WWII Honor Flight and served our country and was WWII Veteran of the United States Navy.  He also appointed as an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel bestowed by John Patterson, Governor of Alabama.  He formerly served as Chairman of the Stagg Bowl, a former member of the Phenix City Rotary Club, Vice-President Alabama State Jaycees, and the local Jaycees, voted him “Man of the Year” and he formerly served as Chairman of the Phenix City Housing Authority.  He served as a Deacon of his church and currently a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus.  Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Zoe Dokos Shepard.

He is survived by his daughter, Erin Shepard McLemore and husband Frank of Smiths Station, AL, son, Errol Kellon Shepard and wife Margaret of Vacaville, CA; (3)grandchildren, Jim McLemore and wife Angie, Zoe Ann Williams and husband John, and Nathan Kellon Shephard, (4) great grandchildren, Justin Williams and wife Barak, Ollivia McLemore Humphries and husband Judson, Lauren McLemore, and Hannah Williams (3) precious great great grandchildren, Abraham, Nathaniel, and Adalyn Grace, numerous extended family members and many caring friends.  Online condolences may be shared at www.vancememorialchapel.net
