L. Dale Stamps

L. Dale Stamps, age 88, of Phenix City, AL formerly of Dallas, TX died peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 25, 2023.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL.
Dale was born to Dewey and Ruth Dyer Stamps on March 21st, 1935, in Carrollton, GA. In 1945 at the age of 10, Dale and his brother and two sisters moved to Phenix City, AL where he graduated from Central High School in 1953.
That same year, Dale enrolled at Auburn University and graduated four years later in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management. While at Auburn, Dale was selected as a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society which recognizes students attaining a high standard of efficiency in college activities and served as Chairman of the ODK Beauty Ball. In addition, Dale trained in the ROTC, proudly serving a term as the Commandant of the Army, Navy and Air Force Units, and was a member of the Pi Tau Pi Sigma Honorary National Signal Corp.
Dale excelled academically at Auburn, graduating number one in his class in Industrial Management, while studying under a Western Electric scholarship during his junior and senior year. Dale also earned membership in the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society recognizing academic excellence and engagement in the community of scholars in service to others and is listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.
Upon graduation from Auburn University, he accepted a position as an Industrial Engineer for Western Electric in Winston Salem, NC. In June 1958, Dale was called into the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, taking Signal Officers training at Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey for 6 months and serving as Assistant Post Marksmanship Coordinator. Having been released from his Army service, Dale returned to his position at Western Electric for 18 months. In 1960, Dale applied for and was accepted into a 2-year graduate program at Harvard Business School in Boston, MA, graduating with a Masters in Business Administration in 1962. Whie at Harvard, Dale served as President of the Southern Club and was Vice President of the Public Affairs Club.
After his schooling, Dale pursued his interest in finance and investments and was recruited and served as an Investment Advisor for Penson Investments in Dallas, TX for two years. In 1964, Dale founded his own investment firm, Spar Investment Counsel, which he owned and managed for over 50 successful years. In the spring of 2016, Spar Investment Counsel merged with McElhenny Sheffield Capital Management of Dallas, TX.
As a proud alumnus of Auburn University, Dale Stamps wanted to give back and contribute to the education of future generations. The L. Dale Stamps Scholarship is being established to provide financial assistance to promising you students of Phenix City and Russell County, AL.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Ruth Stamps and two siblings, Carol Stamps Grohman and Julian Stamps.
Survivors include his sister, Marion Stamps Sellers, Phenix City, AL; sister-in-law, Ellen Stamps; two nieces, Susan Hartman (Lance), Phenix City, AL and Julie K. Cunningham, Midland, GA; three nephews, Chris Stamps, Phenix City, AL, James Lance Grohman, Phenix City, AL and Dean Grohman, Smiths Station, AL; several great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
