Lavada V. Childers Knowles, 83, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully on January 9, 2022 after an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday January 12, 2022 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road Columbus, GA with Pastor Johnny Mendoza officiating. Interment will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday at Zion Hope Church Cemetery in Cordele, GA with Pastor James Spires officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday Evening from 6-8 PM at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Columbus, GA.
She was born November 29, 1938 in Jasper, FL to the late Dovey and Mattie Childers. She worked most of her life as a waitress and also as an LPN. She was raised in Arabi near Cordele, GA and graduated from Arabi High School. She attended Evangel Temple Church in Columbus, GA. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to cook for them. She wanted to make sure she fed you and you didn’t leave hungry. She also loved dogs, especially her partner and poodle Peppy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Vertie Lee Ruff, Hazel Griffin, Margie Stansberry, and Lil Mary Childers, brother, Marvin Childers, great granddaughter, Samantha Newsom, and her niece and caretaker, Brenda Stansberry.
Survivors include her son, David P. Newsom, Jr. (Dorrie) of Dublin, GA, daughters, Denise N. Walker (David) of Columbus, GA and Chrystal Benton of Columbus, GA, grandchildren, David S. Newsom of Milledgeville, GA, Jessica Stone (Cason) of Columbus, Brandy Lindsay (Josh) of Lewis, IN and Brianna Benton of Columbus, GA, nine great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
