Lelia Irene Suggs, age 100, of Smiths Station, AL passed away peacefully at her home with family and friends by her side on Sunday, January 29, 2017 after a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm CST Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Sykes Funeral Home in Clarksville, TN. Interment will follow at Baggett Chapel Cemetery. The family will also receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm CST at Sykes Funeral Home in Clarksville.
Mrs. Suggs was born October 29, 1916 in Houston County, TN (Old Ellis Mills Community) to the late C. B. Welker and Carrie Davidson Welker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Suggs was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Carney L. Suggs, a brother, Buford Welker and sister-in-law, Gladys Welker.
Mrs. Suggs leaves behind to cherish her memory, a daughter, Linda G. Richards of Smiths Station, AL, one grandson, Mike Richards and wife Jodee of Smiths Station, AL, niece, Kaye Smith of Clarksville, TN, two cousins, Otho Welker of Clarksville, TN, and Conrad Welker of Hattiesburg, MS, and special family friends.
