Jean Hester Lunsford, 92 years old, went to be with her Lord and Savior November 12, 2024, at her home in Phenix City, Alabama. She was born on January 31, 1932, in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, daughter of the late Harold George Hester and Vera Mae Bailey Hester.
Mrs. Lunsford spent her early childhood in Charco, Conroe, and Goliad, Tx before moving to Phenix City, Al. when she was 12 years old. She was a member of Westside Baptist, later named Lakewood Baptist. She attended Central Jr. High and Central High School. She worked at the Spinning Wheel Ice Cream Parlor. She married William Edward (Ed) Lunsford in 1947. She worked at Seymore Dress Shop and later owned an antique store, “Jean’s Antiques & Unique’s”.
Jean had a servant’s heart. She was a Sunday School Teacher and lead the GAs in church for many years. She worked in the church kitchen for Wednesday night supper and regularly attended Monday night visitation. She later joined Summerville Baptist Church and was a member of Wylean Lunsford Barnes Sunday School Class. She served in the clothing closet and loved the Christian Fellowship at Summerville.
Jean was married to Ed Lunsford for 69 years. In those 69 years they raised a family of three daughters, Becky Lunsford Brown, Terrie Lunsford Brewer and Eddie Lunsford Williams, Three sons-in-law, Bronny Brown, the late Sandy Brewer and Shane Williams; ten grandchildren, Leigh Vaness (Audie) , Seth Brown(Beth), Jay Brown (Stacey), Gary Head Jr.(Jodi), Christie Schofield (Scott), John Brewer, Angela Brewer, Cheryl Brewer Webb (Jamie), Shane Williams II (Samantha) and Ben Williams (Erica) and Fifteen Great Grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her sister Ann Roberts (late Frank Roberts), brother-in-law Joe Lunsford (Barbara), sister-in-law Wylean Lunsford Barnes (late Lee Lunsford), and preceded in death by two sisters; Francis Hutcheson and Magdalynn Drewett and brother-in-law Ronnie Lunsford (Peggy).
The family wants to extend a special thanks to Columbus Hospice of Georgia & Alabama. The love and care they provided were priceless. We will be forever grateful for Jamie, Candice and Bonita.
The service will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Friday, November 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Isaac Gilbert officiating. Graveside following the service. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at 10:00 a.m.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to Summerville Baptist Church.
