Leonard E. Mitchell

Leonard E. Mitchell, 92, of Phenix City, AL passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019 at his home.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am EST Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Auburn Heights Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL with Dr. Wayne Scarborough, Rev. Rodney Mitchell and Rev. Sam Allen officiating.  Interment will follow at 1:00 pm at Parkhill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST, at the funeral home.

Mr. Mitchell was born May 4, 1927 in Red Level, AL, son of the late John Mitchell, Sr. and Ethel Ratley Mitchell.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.   After his service, Mr. Mitchell owned and operated AAA Auto Parts for over 23 years.  He was a long time member of Auburn Heights Baptist Church.  Mr. Mitchell enjoyed fishing, gardening and camping with his wife and family.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Eula Ridley, Mildred Field and Mittie Edwards; one brother, John Mitchell, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marilyn Colvin Mitchell; two daughters, Sandra Lance and husband David of Salem, AL and Penny Good and husband Scott of Smiths Station, AL; three sons, Gary Mitchell and wife Dianne of Salem, AL, Keith Mitchell and wife Jeanne of Phenix City, AL and Rev. Rodney Mitchell and wife Debbie of Phenix City, AL; grandchildren, Amy Smith (John Paul), Jenny Scruggs (Tony), Tracy Ables (Tony), Abby Mitchell, Ashley Benvenuto (Brad), John Mitchell, Katie Clampit (Jonathan), Shane Blankenship (Kim), Hunter Good and Peyton Good; eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, several extended family members and numerous friends.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Auburn Heights Baptist Church, 4207 Auburn Rd., Phenix City, AL 36870 or the charity of your choice in memory of Mr. Leonard Mitchell.
