Leroy Irving Dixon

Leroy Irving Dixon, 79, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Magnolia Manor in Columbus, Georgia. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm EDT on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery according to Vance-Brooks Funeral Home 4048 Macon Road Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends at Vance-Brooks from 12:00 until 1:00 on Thursday. Mr. Dixon was born August 30, 1934 in Madison, FL to the late Leroy Hoffman Dixon and Sadie Mae Blair Dixon. He was retired from the US Army where he served his country honorably for 28 A½ yrs. During his distinguished military career, he was stationed in Germany, Vietnam, Hawaii, Ft. Monroe, VA, Presidio of San Francisco, CA, Tampa, FL and Ft. Benning, GA. He was a decorated soldier receiving numerous medals and ribbons. Mr. Dixon leaves behind to cherish his memory a wife, Virginia Stevens Dixon, daughter, Beth Gillmann, son James Dixon, 4 grandchildren, Joy, Lori and Savannah Dixon and Kyle Keaton who will miss their “Paw Paw” and many other relatives and friends.
