d. August 14, 2024

01/26/1948

Lester J. Lifsey, 76, of Phenix City, AL died at Piedmont Columbus Midtown, Columbus, GA on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM (EST) on Saturday, August 17, 2024 in Second Baptist Church, Columbus, GA with Dr. Don Wilhite and Rev. Mike Reeves officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Barnesville, GA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Lifsey was born January 26, 1948, in Macon, GA son of the late Lester G. Lifsey, Jr and Elizabeth Ann Stoddard Goering. He graduated from Gordon Military High School in Barnesville, GA in 1966 and was a proud member of the National Guard as an M.P. serving during the time of the Vietnam war. Mr. Lifsey had retired from Columbus Body Works as a painter after many committed years of service. He was an active member of Second Baptist Church where he served in various ministries and enjoyed worshiping with family and friends.

He was an avid sports fan. Back in the 1960’s he enjoyed listing to the Kentucky Wild Cats Basketball on the radio. Georgia Tech was his college football team, and the Braves were his professional Baseball team. Being well rounded in his sports, he enjoyed NASCAR, well up until Bill Elliott died. In his personal life he was an avid runner. Mr. Lifsey ran in thirteen consecutive Peachtree Road Races and multiple half-marathons. This was accomplished despite a serious lung condition. He loved to fish and had fished since he was a little boy. The weather never seemed to hinder him either.

We will remember him as a quiet man who was full of life. He was always smiling and encouraging others that were around him. His family was his world, especially the grandchildren. We will also remember that he was always putting others first. We know that his actions were a direct result of his walk with Christ. Thank you for your consistent example for us and others to follow.

Mr. Lifsey was preceded in death by his parents, Lester G. Lifsey, Jr. and Elizabeth Goering; two sisters, Leslie Lifsey Sperry and Lanie Lifsey Long; his son, Anthony Christopher “Tony” Lifsey.

Survivors include his daughter, Anita Murphy (David), Senoia, GA; siblings, Elisha Lifsey Dix (Tim), Britt Lifsey (Ginger) all of Barnesville, GA, Kim Goering Robinson (Joe), Kansas City, MO and Jon Mark Goering (Carolyn Hendrix), Moore, OK; six grandchildren, Joshua McEntyre, Kirstin Dearman (Scott), Savana Murphy (Garrett Gunnoud), Israel Rhys Lifsey, Madisyn Shyanne Lifsey and Merida Trinity Lifsey; three great-grandchildren, Raiden McEntyre, Kinley Dearman and Tristen Dearman; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
