Lewis H. Gray, Sr., 76, of Smiths Station, AL passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Tuskegee Veterans Hospital in Tuskegee, AL.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held 11:00 am EDT Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Pastor Chuck Klemtovich officiating. A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home.
Mr. Gray was born April 20, 1940 in Phenix City, AL to the late Lewis Franklin Gray and Lois Leola Mote Gray. He was self-employed for over 50 years as a welder and a blacksmith. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and enjoyed fishing, and cooking, and spending time with all his grandchildren and family. He was Pentecostal by faith. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Faye Mullins Gray, a daughter, Marissa Ann Gray, three sisters, two brothers, and a great grandson, Chase Aiden Taylor.
He is survived by his children, Laura Ann Gray, Lewis H. Gray, Jr. and wife Lorene, and John “Wayne” Gray and wife Miranda, all of Smiths Station, AL; one brother, Roy Eugene Gray and wife Sherry of Columbus, GA, (6) grandchildren, Brittany Gray, Heather Klemtovich (Drew), Preston Reynolds (Kerri), John W. Gray, Jr., Trevor Gray, and Katlynn Gray, (7) great grandchildren, numerous extended family members and many caring friends. Online condolences may be made at www.vancememorialchapel.net
