Lloyd Ray Bush, age 83, resident of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Columbus Hospice House, Columbus, Georgia. Memorial services are scheduled at First Baptist Church, 2608 Summerville Road, Phenix City, Alabama on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, 11 a.m. with Reverend F.L. “Bubba” Copeland officiating, according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N, Phenix City, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 5-7 pm.
Mr. Bush, son of the late Loyd Ray Bush, Sr. and Fannie Lee Thrift Bush, was born May 1, 1937 in Statesboro, Georgia. During his high school years, he was noted as an outstanding football player, was selected as a high school All-American. After high school graduation, he received a scholarship from the University of Georgia, and played quarterback during his tenue. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Phenix City; former Phenix City Councilman at large and Mayor Pro-Tem; past President of the Phenix City Republican Party; and past President of the Jaycees. Mr. Bush was instrumental in the implementation of the current form of city government. He retired from Liberty National Insurance Company, spanning over 40 years. During his years at Liberty National, he received multiple awards. He was also the former President of the Life Underwriters Association.
Mr. Bush loved music and singing. He enjoyed supporting Georgia football; playing golf; traveling; spending time with his friends at Waffle House; and always enjoyed donuts and coffee with family and friends. The family remembers him as a loving husband, wonderful Dad, and terrific Granddad.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Bush Daniels; and a brother, Bill Bush. Mr. Bush is survived by his wife, Patricia Fuller Bush of Phenix City; two daughters, Kay Bush Sorrells and her husband Robert of Gulf Shores, Alabama and Kelly Bush Moon and her husband Larry of Smryna, Georgia; step-son, Jason Wade and his wife Hannah of Ellerslie, Georgia; grandchildren, Chris Coates, Stephanie Coates, Trey Lane, Caleb Lane, Brittany Schumacher, Maggie Lane Craigge, and Raylen Wade; great-grandchildren, Kameran Wilson, Kiersten Wilson, Faith Lane, Hope Lane, Joey Lane, Caroline Coates, James Lane, Carter Coates, and Chi Lane; brothers, Larry Bush and his wife Nell of Columbus, Georgia and Bobby Bush and his wife Marilyn of Phenix City, Alabama; many other relatives and friends.
