Lonnie E. Garrison

July 3, 1951 — December 22, 2024

Opelika

Lonnie E. Garrison, 73, of Opelika, AL, passed away on December 22, 2024. A visitation will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3438 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, Al 36867 on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Services will conclude with a committal service at Parkhill Cemetery.

Lonnie was born in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina on July 3, 1951, to the late Donald and Margaret Ann Garrison. He served in the United States Army in combat during the Vietnam war until honorably discharging and going to Columbus Technical College. Lonnie then worked for Dolly Madison as a Maintenance Engineer until retirement. Lonnie was a simple man who loved his family more than anything. He has a special place in his heart for his baby brother, Mike, and will always love him. He married the love of his life, Victoria Garrison in 1987 and remained her loving and faithful husband for 37 years until his passing. In life, Lonnie enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Gulf Shores with his wife. He really loved listening to bluegrass with his friends Willie Bob and Teddy Bear. He liked watching baseball, fishing, hunting, and socializing. Lonnie was known for never having met a stranger and being able to hold hours-long conversations with people he just met. He was an avid poker player and loved to play, although he was a KCAC, aka Known Cheater At Cards. He taught his grandchildren to play poker from the time they could read the cards. Lonnie could make or repair anything. He was the go-to man because he knew how to do everything. He also loved to teach others how to do things, especially his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, especially Skyler, who he spent a significant amount of time with. Lonnie would say he was wealthy in intangible things and valued love, time, loyalty, and trust. He was a special man who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents, Donald T. Garrison and Margaret Ann Garrison.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Victoria Garrison; daughters, Ann Marie Jordan (Shawn), Jeannie Rebecca McCormick (Jason), Heidi Dawn Netteler (Mark), and Bianca Nicole Gattis (Tony); son, David Geno Haas Jr. (Millie); sisters, Linda Wilson (Tommy), and Donna Clark; brothers, Don Garrison Jr. (Olivia), Ronnie Garrison (Cindy), and Mike Garrison (Yvonne); grandchildren, Leah, Kayla, Aaron, Robert, Nick, Shawn Patrick, Jonathon, Cindy, Gregory, Malayna, Austin, Nikolas, and Ethan Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Braden, Harley Rose, Isabella, Maria, Skyler, Drake, Everly, and Finn.
