Lonnie Stamey, 92, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2015 in the comfort of his home while surrounded by his loving family in Phenix City, AL. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm EDT Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Dr. Ray Cummings officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home. Mr. Stamey grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Stamey was born July 15, 1922 in Cusseta, GA to the late Tom Stamey and Susie Sizemore Stamey. He was retired with Peko Iron Works of Columbus, GA and was a WWII Veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Stamey enjoyed fishing, camping, wood crafting and spending time with all his grandchildren. He was a member of Golden Acres Baptist Church in Phenix City. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Mattie Lou Addison Stamey and two brothers, twin brother, Leroy Stamey and James W. Stamey and a grandson, Chris Newsome. He is survived by two daughters, Pat Corlee of Smiths Station, AL and Beverly Newsome of Phenix City, AL, one son, Ronnie Stamey and wife Sue of Smiths Station, AL. (7) Grandchildren, Jason Purvis, Amie Fretwell, Todd Newsome (Misty), Kim Watson (Chris), Brooke Jones, Ron Stamey (Angie) and Stacey Sartuche (Richard), (16) great grandchildren, numerous other loving family members and many caring friends. The family of Mr. Lonnie Stamey expresses appreciation to all the staff at Gentiva Hospice for their care and love shown for Mr. Stamey and his family.
