Lura Marie Gallagher

Lura Marie Gaitros Gallagher, 87, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am EDT on Friday June 16, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbus, GA with Father McCarthy officiating.  Interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery at 2:00 pm EDT.  A Rosary Service will take place 10:00 am EDT on Friday prior to the service at the church.  The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City.

Mrs. Gallagher was born September 28, 1929 in Cisco, IL to the late Daniel Gaitros and Arva Eubanks Gaitros.  She was retired from the Muscogee County Board of Education where she served as a lunchroom cashier.  Her passion in life was helping others, and spending quality time with her grandchildren.  She enjoyed knitting, cooking, and family, she was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbus.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Patrick Gallagher, two sons, John Patrick Gallagher, Jr., and James Gallagher, one sister, Hazel Gaitros, and five brothers, George Gaitros, Peter Gaitros, Thurman Gaitros, Carl Gaitros, and Daniel Gaitros.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Kunkle and husband Tim of LaGrange, GA; two sons, Michael Gallagher of Columbus, GA, Jeff Amenda and wife Bonita of Monticello,IL; a sister, Katie Woodmansee of Homer, IL; three brothers, Edward Gaitros and wife Iris of Perkin, IL, Charles Gaitros and wife Charlotte of Fort, OH, and Donald Gaitros and wife of Vicki of Waco, TX; sisters-in-law, Ann Gaitros of Gordo, IL, and Kay Gaitros of Dalton City, IL; (4) grandchildren, Mary Amber Phelan (John), Rose Marie Gallagher, John Patrick Gallagher, III (Ashley), and Kenneth Amenda (Heather); (2) great grandchildren, Lilyth Phelan, and Declan Gallagher, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
