Mamie Haywood

March 20, 1933 — April 15, 2018

Mamie Thomas Haywood, 85, of Smiths Station, AL passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Kindred Hospice in Columbus, GA while surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm EDT on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Michael Greer and Rev. Gary Tankersley officiating.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home.

Mrs. Haywood was born March 20, 1933 in Marinna, FL to the late Joseph Herbert Thomas and Irene Cuthins Thomas.  She worked with the Bibb Mill and Southern Phenix Textile and was retired with 43 years of loyal service.  She was a member of the Chattahoochee Valley Southern Gospel Music Association along with serving with many other Gospel groups in surrounding area.  She cherished being surrounded by her family and all her grandchildren sharing special times.  She was a member of Shady Woods Word of Faith Church in Phenix City.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leo D Haywood, son, Dewayne Haywood, two sisters, Alice Capps, and Dorothy Sims, and two brothers, Jennings Thomas, and Glenn Thomas.

 She is survived by two daughters, Gail Haywood Chandler and husband Rick of Phenix City, AL and Ceretha Haywood Willetts and husband Phill of Phenix City, AL; one sister, Shirley Bryant of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren, Charles Wayne Moore and wife Dena, Casey Moore Wasner and husband Michael, Trey Bullock, Kathryn Early and husband Ryan, Leo “Jay” Dewayne Haywood and wife Carri, Zachary Aaron Willets and wife Brittany and Jacob Andrew Willetts; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Moore and wife Destiney, Sidney Wasner, Jordan Moore and wife Callie, and Cameron Wasner; great-great-grandchildren, Rayleigh Moore, Leo Moore, Madden Moore, Everett Moore, and Callie Hayes, and many other family members and friends.
