Mara Elizabeth Gillen

Mara Elizabeth Gillen, 84, Salem, AL. passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 3, 2013, beginning at 2:00 P.M. EST, with Pastor Dan Rogers officiating, in the chapel of Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. Mara Gillen was born September 28, 1928 in Columbus, GA. Daughter of the late Ocie Taylor and Margaret Hood Taylor. Mara enjoyed traveling with the VFW and served as an officer of the Woman's VFW of Enterprise, She was an avid bowler and was very creative when it came to needle crafts. Other than her parents Mara is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Leroy William Gillen; two sons, Michael Tyrus Barfield and Stephen Wendell Barfield; and a sister Rebecca Sprayberry. Survivors include Two sons, David C. Barfeild and wife Brenda, of Salem, AL. Terry Lynn Gillen and wife Molly, of Ozark, AL; two sisters, Alice Outz, of Columbus, GA. and Virginia Bates and husband David, of Shrevport, LA; One brother, Ted Taylor and wife Pete, of Phenix City, AL; Grandchildren, Richard Barfield, Niki Lawrence, Tori Rush, Raven Barfield McDonald; eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
