Margaret Jeanette Gunter Mayhand, 89, of Phenix City, AL passed away Friday, February 02, 2018 at Columbus Hospice House. A graveside service will be held at Parkhill Cemetery on Tuesday, February 06, 2018 beginning at 11:00 EST, with Pastor Mike Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, February 05, 2018 at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. EST until 8:00 P.M. EST.
Margaret was born June 27th, 1928 in Enterprise, AL to the late Charles Herman Gunter and Frances Josephine Andrews Gunter. She was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church and a member of The Shrinettes and was employed for many years with JC Penny’s Department Store.
Other than her parents, Margaret is predeceased by her husband of fifty six years, James “Hilton” Mayhand, her sisters, Mildred Locklar, Lunie Rehberg and Anita Locklar and her brother, Charles Gunter.
Survivors include Her son, Rex Michael Mayhand and wife Emmie of Cataula GA, grandchildren, Chris Mayhand and wife Candy of Cataula, GA, Jeff Mayhand and wife Joey of Columbus, GA. Great grandchildren, Cody Mayhand and wife Callie of Phenix City, AL, Tristan Mayhand of Columbus, GA. and Corey Gaither of Fort Hood. TX. Great, great grandchildren, Cole Mayhand, Caylen Mayhand and Chloe Mayhand, all of Phenix City, AL and McKinley Gaither of Fort Hood, TX. Several nieces and nephews.
Maragret was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother and friend and will be forever missed.
Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
