Margaret Louise Caraway Smith

Margaret Louise Caraway Smith, 88, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM EDT Friday, September 12, 2014 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Dennis Lacy officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith was born January 23, 1926 in Hialeah, FL to Benjamin James Caraway and Hattie Louise Herring Caraway. Margaret had a successful career as a wedding planner and retired doing what she loved. She enjoyed Auburn Football games, interior decorating, and was active in several clubs including the Garden Club. She cherished spending time with family and friends at Miami Beach and Daytona Beach. She was a Christian by faith and a woman of great character. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Milton Smith, a son, Harold Brent Smith, one sister, LaJuana Elaine Mayfield and a brother, Bennie Ralph Caraway. She is survived by one daughter, Connie Smith Brunson and husband Gary of Montgomery, AL, two brothers, Aubrey James Caraway and wife Dottie of Bradenton, FL and Charles Wallace Caraway and wife Kaye of Franklin, NC. Two grandchildren, Tyler Brunson O'Grady, husband Eugene Louis O'Grady, Jr., and Matthew Benjamin Brunson and wife Cindy; three great grandchildren, Quentin Alexander Brunson, Grace Margaret O'Grady and Eugene Louis O'Grady, III, brother-in-law, Bryan Mayfield, and numerous other loving family members and many caring friends.
