Margarethe Cook

Margarethe “Margie” Cook, 95, of Columbus, GA passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Muscogee Manor. Funeral services will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Friday, January 28, 2022 beginning at 12:00 PM with Chaplain Daniel Mitchell officiating. The interment will conclude at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. In keeping with efforts to control the spread of COVID-19, facemasks and social distancing will be encouraged.

Margie was born on April 27, 1926 in Topola, Yugoslavia to the late Georg Lutje and Elisabeth Alar. The youngest of 11 children, Margie was always energetic and believed in living life to its fullest. She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed playing golf, walking for exercise and gardening. Her willingness to invest into the lives of others could be found as she instructed at the European Health Spa and as she worked in the nursery at Edgewood Baptist Church, where she was a member.

Other than her parents, Margie is preceded in death by her husband Junior Cook, ten siblings, and grandsons Chad Cook and Christopher Cook.

Survivors include her daughters Barbara Lawrence (Randy) of Phenix City, AL and Christine Toomey (Kenna) of Fayetteville, GA; son Robert Cook of Columbus, GA; grandchildren Kris Toomey and Randy Lawrence, Jr. (Jessica); great-grandchildren Leah Cook, Emma Lawrence and Griffin Adair.
