Maria Zang Hughes

Maria Zang Hughes, 95, of Salem, AL passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EDT on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Mike Turner officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral service on Thursday at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Main Post Cemetery at Fort Benning, GA.

Mrs. Hughes was born January 2, 1922 in Germany.  She had a passion for strong work ethics, and loved engaging in all tasked that surrounded her home.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whom was dearly devoted to her family.  She was raised in the Catholic Faith.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, MSGT (Retired) Robert Earl Hughes, and one daughter, Maryanne Hughes Dixon.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Hinkle of Florida, two sons, William “Billy” W. Hughes of Smiths Station, AL, and Jimmy W. Hughes and wife Josephine of Salem, AL (7) grandchildren, Jimmy Hinkle, Maria Hinkle, John John Dixon, Daniel Dixon, Robert Hughes, Anthony Hughes, and Chelsea Hughes; several great grandchildren, and numerous other extended family members and friends.
