Marie Elizabeth Evans

Marie Elizabeth Smith Evans, 89, of Smiths Station, AL passed away peacefully early Christmas morning, December 25, 2015 at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am EST Wednesday, December 30,  2015 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Skip Speed officiating.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Ernest Shelton Evans, IV, Ryan Mitchell Woodall, and Colin Malcolm Woodall, great grandsons, Ernest Shelton Evans, V, Cecil Cain Smith, Trevor Robert Slappey, and Justin Alan Pitts; honorary pallbearers are Seth Lee Gwin, Jacob Evan Gwin, Carson Ellis Clark, Cameron Richard Clark, Daniel Rich Clark, Stephen Peter Clark, and Brody Reid Morgan.

Mrs. Evans was born March 28, 1926 in Elmore County, AL to the late Mack Edwin Smith and Katie Louise Dismukes Smith.  She married Ernest Shelton Evans, Jr. on January 31, 1942.  They were married for 73 years.  Marie worked for Tom’s Foods for 33 years, retiring in 1989.  She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Shelton Evans, Jr., brother, Edwin Graham Smith, and a grandson, Aaron Ellis Gwin.

She is survived by three daughters, Jo Ann Evans Ellis, Stella Louise Daugherty and husband Allen, and Cindy Woodall and husband Tracy; one son, Ernest S. Evans III; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; extended family, and many caring friends.
