Marilyn Ausland, 85, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at her residence in Columbus, GA. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Striplin Terrace UMC, following cremation at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Rodney D. Porter officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 13, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home. Marilyn Irene Tague was born on July 31, 1927 in Moose Lake, MN the youngest of three children of Harry M. and Agnes Timgren Tague. She was educated in a one-room country school, graduated from Cotton-Wood High School (MN), and received a B.A. degree from Northwestern College, Minneapolis, MN, and an M.A from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL. Her work history included teacher, church secretary, youth worker and psychiatric social worker, retiring from the State of Minnesota in 1989. She was married to Paul James Ausland in 1965, and they retired to Columbus, GA in 1992. Both were active in Striplin Terrace UMC, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and participating in many other activities. She was a member of RSVP, volunteered at the Columbus Museum and local nursing homes, and sewed hundreds of garments for Columbus' children, giving them to Open Door Community House and to the Star Spano PTA Clothing Bank. Mrs. Ausland was preceded in death by her parents and brother James. She is survived by her husband of over 45 years, one sister Florence (Art) Berg of Belgrade, MN, a nephew and niece, several great nephews and nieces, many cousins and numerous friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Building Fund of Striplin Terrace UMC at 4170 Striplin Terrace Dr. Columbus, GA 31909 or Barnum, MN Community UMC at 3762 Front St. Barnum, MN.
