Marion Paul Strickland, 84, of Opelika, AL died peacefully surrounded by family at his home on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 while under the Care of Columbus Hospice.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 AM (EST) on Thursday, July 20, 2023 in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Steve Williamson and Rev. Matt Hawkins officiating. A private interment will be held in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour at the funeral home on Thursday.
Mr. Strickland was born April 6, 1939 in Chipley, FL son of the late Thomas Marion Strickland and Jewell Baxley Strickland. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving our country with pride. Mr. Paul had retired from Valley Auto Parts as the Warehouse Manager. He was an active member of Crawford Baptist Church where he worshiped and fellowshipped. Fishing was a favorite past time he enjoyed with family and friends on a regular basis. Watching Auburn Football and occasionally Alabama Football was a fun fall activity he enjoyed. Mr. Paul was known for his beautiful tomato plants and the tasty fruit he shared with folks, however his garden was not limited to just tomatoes. He found great joy in training his German Shepherds who also became his constant companions. We will miss him in our daily routine, but he will always be remembered in our hearts.
Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Marion Strickland and Jewell Baxley Strickland and a son, Phillip Paul Strickland.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ada Mills Strickland, Phenix City, AL; daughter, Donna Amaro (Steven), MI; four special grandchildren, Moriah Sobie (Brad), Marissa Monroe (Shaatir), Marcus Amaro (Shakinah) and Malachi Amaro; two precious great-grandchildren, Caleb and Eden Sobie; several other family members and friends.
