Martha Grace Guthrie

Martha Grace Mitchell Guthrie, 80, of Columbus, GA died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Private services were held on Friday, January 27, 2023, at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Allen Roelkey officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL.

Mrs. Guthrie was born May 16, 1942 in Columbus, GA daughter of the late Samuel Eugene Mitchell and Georgia Bozeman Mitchell. Grace was a homemaker who faithfully took care of her husband and kids. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren unconditionally and would go to great lengths to protect them. One of her favorite pastimes in her earlier years was going to the grocery store to get the latest copies of the tabloids to see what was happening in the entertainment world. She also loved to read and watch news channels to keep up with current events which lead to her calling her children to discuss the latest topic. She loved summertime family trips to the beach and large family gatherings at Easter. Grace will always be remembered for her love of her family and will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Guthrie was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Georgia Mitchell.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Robert Lee Guthrie, Sr.; three daughters, Donna Guthrie Farr, Theresa Guthrie Edge (Gene) and Cindy Guthrie Powell (Alan); one son, Robert Lee Guthrie, Jr. (Denise); eight grandchildren, Brandi Farr, Alan Powell, Jr., Robert Lee Guthrie, III, (Melissa), Orrie Powell, Clay Guthrie (Kaitlyn), Samantha Huckaby (Kody), Jessica Guthrie, and Lindsey Edge; sixteen great-grandchildren, Breanna (Rachel), Mason, Jayden, Colton, Jaxon, Jamison, Kooper Grace, Memphis, Cayson, Korbin, Stella, Miller, Kullen, Lawson, Karson, and Luke; and other extended family and friends.
