Mary Cathryn Greathouse Richerson

Mary Cathryn Greathouse Richerson, long time resident of Columbus, GA, who recently moved to Liberty, MO, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016, at North Care Hospice, North Kansas City, Missouri, after a brief illness.

Mary Cathryn Greathouse was born May 14, 1929 in Jackson, TN to James Marvin and Mary Kierolf Greathouse.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dr. William M. Greathouse; and two sons, Ralph Philip Richerson and Joseph Marvin Richerson.

She is survived by her loving husband of sixty seven years, Rev. Claude B. Richerson of Liberty, MO; one brother, Dr. Charles Greathouse and wife Sula of Jackson, TN;  four sons, John David Richerson and wife Denise of Austin, TX, Stephen Wayne Richerson and wife Becky of Salem, VA, Herbert Daniel Richerson and wife Debbie of Liberty, MO, and Timothy Claude Richerson and wife Dawn of Lawrenceville, GA;  ten grandchildren: Ethan, Peter, Jesse, James, Raechel, Jayce and Luke Richerson, Mary Richerson Mann, Susan Richerson Harper, and Jason Struck;  fourteen great-grandchildren, and number fifteen is due in October. 

Cathryn was a graduate of Jackson (TN) High School, where she was salutatorian of her class.  A devoted and faithful Christian, she assisted her husband Claude, a Southern Baptist pastor, as a musician in several churches in Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, and Georgia.  She was an accomplished pianist, organist, and had a magnificent soprano singing voice.  Her life was spent as a loving wife and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. After their retirement from full time pastoral ministry, she served for twenty years as pianist at Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, GA.  Cathryn was a giving, caring, and compassionate person, who spent her life serving others. While we will greatly miss her, we also rejoice in her homegoing into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, July 22, 2016,  at Chandler Baptist Church in Liberty, MO. 

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. prior to the funeral.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bittiker Funeral Home in Carrollton, MO.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Columbus, GA. on Saturday, July 30, 2016.

Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Columbus, GA.
