Mrs. Mary Jean Dudley was born April 14, 1936, in Pike County, Concord, GA to W. Marshall Oxford and Geneva Flynn Oxford. Her life book ended on Saturday, January 20, 2024, in the comfort of her home in Phenix City, AL.
Since 1954, Jean has given of herself to the medical field. Beginning as a Nursing Assistant at Upson County Hospital in Thomaston, GA. Serving as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Big Springs, TX, Amarillo, TX, Peru, IN and Spokane, WA for the Air Force and Ft. Benning at Martin Army Hospital. As a tribute to the medical profession that enriched her life for so many years, she always supported all medical programs that gave the opportunity to save lives. Mrs. Dudley finished her career in Nursing working for Dr. John Buckholtz, the Medical Center, Family Practice, and worked there until her retirement. She enjoyed decorating, shopping, traveling, camping, nature, and the outdoors. She was a Baptist by faith and in the past attended First Baptist Church in Seale, AL.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, MSG (Ret) Dan A. Dudley; friend and wonderful companion, Richard McKinney; and the father of their children, Robert Kelley, and a grandson, Jason William “JW” Frye IV
She is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Jean Kelley of Seale, AL; son, Robert G. Kelley of Phenix City, AL; loved as a daughter, Mary Harrell Kelley of Phenix City, AL; a brother, J. Larry Oxford and wife Emily of Thomaston, GA; a sister, S. Elaine Oxford Stribling of Savannah, GA; four grandchildren, Soloman Ratliff, Jennifer Frye Jay, Jessica Frye Womack, and Lindsey T. Kelley; several great- grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; stepchildren of her deceased husband, Dan, Danny, Regina, Joseph, and Melissa; numerous other loving family members and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm EST on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Ricky Ward officiating. A private interment will take place at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to service at the funeral home in Phenix City.
