Mary Elizabeth Whitehead

Mary Elizabeth Whitehead, 73, of Seale, AL, passed away Sunday morning at Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am EST, on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Vance Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery and the family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home.

Mrs. Whitehead was born on November 15, 1943, in Ft. Benning, GA, to the late Fred Duty and Elizabeth Duty Grice. She worked as a floral design and marketing teacher at Russell County High School and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jake Whitehead, step father, L.C. Grice, brothers Charles, Carl and Freddie Duty and grandson Michael Davis.

She is survived by 4 children, Glenn Whitehead, wife Sally, Angela Davis, husband Johnny, Traci Perry, husband Mike and Rebecca Williams, husband Mark; sister, Marjoria Jordan, husband Ron; brother Donald Duty; 6 grandchildren, Jeffrey Davis, Jonathan Davis, Megan Rhodes, Samantha Henderson, Gavin Williams and Brandon Williams; 5 great grandchildren; very special friends, Faye and George Langley; extended family members and many caring friends.
