Mary Flossie Dykes Harden passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 20th, 2017. On December 16th, she would have celebrated her 88th birthday.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday at Vance Memorial Chapel, 280 Bypass, in Phenix City, Alabama. The family will receive friends from 1pm – 2pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
Flossie was born December 16th, 1929 in Louisville, AL daughter of Willie B. and Clara Leona Green Dykes. She retired from Sunshine Biscuit after 36 years of service and was a member of Summerville Baptist Church. She loved reading and studying her bible and read many religious books, she was also an avid prayer warrior.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Rev. James W. (J.W.) Harden; sisters, Mae Dykes Stringfellow and Jessie Dykes Dawson; brothers, Odel Dykes, C.W. Dykes and Lloyd Dykes.
She is survived by 3 children; Peggy Harden Blackshear and husband Earl, Wanda Harden Thompson and James Mark Harden; grandson, Christopher E. Blackshear and great-grandchildren, Coleton Adams and Katelyn Blackshear; brothers, Bascum Dykes, Donald Dykes and wife Glenda; sisters, Lila Dykes Powell and Grace Stone; several nieces and nephews, a host of other loving nieces and nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Summerville Baptist Church, 3500 Summerville Road, Phenix City, AL, 368677 {please designate to Grace Home); East Alabama Humane Society, 712 13th Street E., Phenix City, Al 36867 or Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Jackie Easley, Paige Easley, Columbus Hospice and many other special friends who have loved and cared for our mother over the years.
